Montenegro is regional stability factor, reliable partner of international community, EULEX Chief Prosecutor says

Podgorica, Montenegro (21 September 2012) – Montenergro has achieved significant results in a short time in achieving its domestic and foreign policy key objectives. Therefore, it has been recognised as a regional stability factor, the EULEX Chief Prosecutor, Ambassador Clint Williamson, said at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković earlier today.

Ambassador Williamson emphasised that Montenegro has been acknowledged as a reliable partner of the international community, as a country that initiates and promotes regional cooperation which is the key to success in combating corruption and organised crime.

DPM Marković informed the EULEX Chief Prosecutor about Montenegro’s activities in strengthening the rule of law and implementing the newly adopted legislative framework. In that regard, he put particular stress on bilateral legal mechanisms in the area of criminal law that Montenegro has initiated and signed with many countries of the region, which have been successfully applied. He also pointed out the successful implementation of the institution of legal extradition of its own nationals for serious crimes, and the successful cooperation of the Montenegrin judiciary, prosecution and police with the countries of the region and beyond, which contributes greatly to the successful completion of significant operational activities in these areas.

Both sides agreed that the key to success and prosperity of the Western Balkan’s is the close cooperation at both institutional and operational levels, adding that the tangible results in this area have already been achieved.
