Paris, France (26 September 2012) The Administrative Council of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) approved a 400.000 euro grant to Montenegro as support to the Government of Montenegro in building a temporary housing settlement for the inhabitants of the refugee camp Konik 1, as an intermediate solution for their accommodation.

The Government adopted a decision on the acquisition of 216 container houses and on the preparation of ground work for their instalment, for which the Government will secure, with the aid of donors, around 1.3 million euro.

The Government has previously acted towards ensuring the financial means and implementing the procedures for the acquisition and instalment of containers in which the families who lost their homes in the refugee camp fires will temporarily be housed.

The Government has continuously worked together with international organisations towards solving the issue of housing and creating preconditions for a normal living for the Konik 1 inhabitants, by ensuring temporary accommodation, providing timely medical protection, kitchen equipment, clothing, etc.

In late July, a fire destroyed a refugee camp in Vrela Ribnička area of Podgorica, and as a consequence 150 families and a total of around 800 persons lost their homes.
