Podgorica, Montenegro (24 October 2012) – Deputy Prime Minister Duško Marković opened the presentation of IPA 2010 twinning project aimed at strengthening anti corruption polices in Montenegro earlier today.

During a 16-month period, the Anti-Corruption Authority and Commission for Prevention of Conflict of Interest of Montenegro, with the cooperation of the German Federal Administration Office, will undertake activities aimed at reducing corruption and conflict of interest in Montenegro, through further development of the existing and newly introduced anti-corruption mechanisms. The project is envisaged to help increase professionalism and transparency of the public administration, improve the current anti corruption legislation framework and harmonise it with international standards and recommendations, DPM Marković explained.

The project, which is to be implemented during Montenegro’s preparations for the opening of the negotiations chapters 23 and 24, where the fight against corruption takes central stage, will help the country enter a most demanding process more readily, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out.

The project is funded by the European Union (EUR 700 000), with Montenegro’s contribution of EUR 37 000.

DPM Marković also announced on this occasion a new twinning project which will be initiated by the end of 2012 and related to the reform of execution of criminal sanctions. The project will last 18 months and will be implemented in partnership with the German and Dutch governments.
