Podgorica, Montenegro (28 December 2012) – “This report reflects the hard work of all relevant authorities and international stakeholders who have managed to respond promptly to all the challenges,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Duško Marković said on the occasion of the adoption of the Report on the Implementation of Commitments from the Integrated Action Plan for the Implementation of the Strategy for Permanent Resolution of the Issue of Displaced and Internally Displaced Persons in Montenegro, with Particular Reference to the Refugee Camp Konik.
The report particularly commended the measures undertaken by the Operative team for monitoring and coordinating activities related to the fire that devastated the camp Konik I this summer, bearing in mind that the set up of 212 container homes for 800 persons was completed in less than four months thus providing for a medium-term accommodation solution for all the families whose homes were burnt down in the fire.
However, the situation in the refugee camp remains worrying and requires prompt and synchronised action of the relevant authorities and international partners in order to achieve infrastructural standards that are necessary for adequate functioning of the camp Konik in the following period.
The Coordination Board adopted the Draft Integrated Action Plan for 2013 in which it has envisaged new legal actions and more intensive regional and international cooperation in finding out a lasting and viable solution for displaced persons in Montenegro.
