Slovakia supports Montenegro’s EU and NATO integration, EIB willing to extend cooperation

Munich, Germany (1 February 2013) – On day one of the 49th Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák the President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Werner Hoyer, with whom he discussed EU and NATO integration of Montenegro and possible development projects.
At their bilateral meeting, Minister Lajčák reassured Prime Minister Đukanović of Slovakia’s firm support to Montenegro’s EU and NATO membership ambitions and noted his country’s view that Montenegro is on the right path in its integration efforts.
Mr Đukanović informed Mr Lajčák on Montenegro’s planned activities for the future and the two officials agreed on the need to boost cooperation between the two states towards ensuring preconditions for a closer economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Đukanović also met with the President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Werner Hoyer. The two officials welcomed the cooperation between Montenegro and EIB in the past and underlined it has brought about many important development projects in Montenegro.
Mr Hoyer noted EIB has assisted Montenegro in a number of infrastructure projects and the ones related to small- and medium-sized business, and voiced the Bank’s readiness to extend cooperation with Montenegro. The two officials agreed to continue discussing possible cooperation on the most important infrastructure project in Montenegro – the high-way.
