PM Đukanović meets with state and government officials during Munich Security Conference

Munich, Germany (2 February 2013) – On day two of the 49th Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with heads of states and government officials of a number of the participating countries.

At his meeting with the Bundestag representatives, PM Đukanović thanked Germany for the continued support for Montenegro’s EU bid, stressing the country’s commitment in further pursuing reforms aimed at meeting its EU agenda.

CDU/CSU representatives to the Bundestag said that they assess each country on their own merits and possibilities, with the clear need of the European perspective of the entire region, and in that regard, they voiced support for Montenegro’s efforts towards achieving standards and implementing reforms.

The meeting between Prime Minister Đukanović and President of Croatia Ivo Josipović agreed that the two countries have been fostering good neughbourly relations, thus contributing to the stability and prosperity of the entire region.

Montenegro and Israel, as two small countries, share common values, which creates conditions for economic cooperation, especially in the areas of security, renewable energy, sophisticated technologies and agriculture, PM Đukanović and Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Barak concluded. DPM Barak underlined that Montenegro can serve as an example of how to maintain good neighbourly relations.

“Friendship between Russia and Montenegro is continuing, and we remain committed to making these relations even better”, PM Đukanović said following his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Mr Lavrov said that Montenegro has been fulfilling its European and Euro- Atlantic agenda and promoting good relation with Russia in parallel, and that there is room for deepening economic ties. In that context, the two officials announced the meeting of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Đukanović and Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolaj Mladenov voiced readiness to carry on  mutual cooperation in terms of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Montenegro’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kosovo Enver Hodžaj confirmed the good relations that are the basis for boosting economic cooperation.

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, PM Đukanović met with US Senator John McCaine and confirmed the good partnership relations established between the two countries. PM Đukanović informed the US Senator about the measures Montenegro's Government is to undertake in terms of EU and NATO accession, adding that Montenegro will continue to cherish the good relations with the partnership countries and counries of the region when it comes to the maintenance of security and to the strengtening of economic cooperation. Mr Mc Caine praised the imrovements Montenegro has registered in all areas, reiterating the United States' willingness to continue to provide support for Montenergro's reform momentum and improvement of the standard of living.
