UK Ambassador Knight-Sands: Montenegro constructive partner in region

Podgorica, Montenegro (4 February 2013) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with Ambassador of the United Kingdom Catherine Knight-Sands for talks on current political and economic affairs in Montenegro and the region in the context of integration process and bilateral cooperation.

PM Đukanović reiterated that the Government’s priorities are related primarily to the economic recovery, advancement of the public administration’s efficiency and meeting the country’s obligations from European and Euro-Atlantic agenda.

He voiced confidence that the completion of the accession negotiation structure and the opening of key chapters of the negotiations process will enable Montenegro to respond properly to its European task.

In that regard, Ambassador Knight-Sands underlined, Montenegro will enjoy the United Kingdom’s full support which will be demonstrated through numerous cooperation programmes. She added that the United Kingdom sees Montenegro as a constructive partner in the region.

Pointing out to the fact that the whole region has been experiencing the transition stage of the financial crisis, the UK Ambassador pledged support for the reforms being pursued by the Montenegrin Government in terms of economy and strengthening the rule of law.

The two officials agreed that it is necessary to continue the integration process of the region in order to improve the quality of life and to ensure the overall stability and security of the countries of the Western Balkan.

The meeting concluded that two countries have developed very good bilateral relations that could be further enhanced by boosting economic ties and joint investment projects.
