Munchen: Messages of support for Montenegro

Defence Minister Prof. Milica Pejanović Đurišić participated at 49th Munich Security Conference, which brought together more than 300 top officials this year.     

The Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and the Minister of Defence met up with the Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak who said that Israel is willing to cooperate and share everything that could improve relations between two countries in the fields of security, economy and culture.  

 

On the sidelines of the Conference, Pejanović Đurišić met up with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence Evelyn Farkas and familiarized her with the results achieved by Montenegro in the process of defence reform. Farkas pointed out readiness of the USA to provide full support to Montenegro on its path to NATO membership in the period to come.      

 

The Minister of Defence also met with Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Defence Christian Smith who said that Germany would continue to support Montenegro on its path of reform to NATO.

 

Defence Minister of the Kingdom of Norway Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen, during the meeting with Pejanović Đurišić, pointed out that Norway fully support Montenegro and would continue to do so, inter alia, by financing projects aimed at improving the capacity of the defence system of Montenegro.   

 

Pejanović Đurišić and her Croatian counterpart Anto Kotromanović talked about the successful cooperation between Montenegro and Croatia, especially on joint participation of Montenegrin and Croatian contingent which, within the ISAF mission, secures a base “Marmal” in Mazar-e Shariff.  

 

Defence Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium Pieter de Crème during the meeting with Pejanović Đurišić praised the achievements of Montenegro in the process of Euro-Atlantic Integration. The collocutors exchanged views on the global challenges of the modern era with a review of the state of security in the Balkans.  Pejanović Đurišić and de Crème agreed that regional cooperation is the best guarantee of peace, security and further overall development in Europe.

 

Messages of support to Montenegro on its Euro-Atlantic path, in conversation with Minister Pejanović Đurišić, were conveyed by her colleagues from the Netherlands, Denmark and Canada.

 

This year’s Munich Security Conference addresses the most contemporaneous issues and challenges of today – the euro crisis and the future of the European Union, transatlantic cooperation within NATO, cyber security – prevention and fight against potential attacks, security and stability in the Southeast Europe and Caucasus, the future of European defense and others.
