NATO member states pledge full support for Montenegro's Euro-Atlantic aspirations

Podgorica, Montenegro (12 February 2013) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Lukšić met with Ambassadors of Slovenia, Luxembourg, Croatia and Slovakia to NATO.

The meeting underlined that the continuation of the accession process and the open door policy and their further affirmation are crucial for further progress of the region and its long-standing safety and stability. 

The ambassadors voiced their governments’ full support for Montenegro’s aspirations for NATO membership and encouraged the country to continue to implement reforms significant for Euro-Atlantic integration. They stressed that the dynamics of the integration process demonstrates that Montenegro has been facing the challenges in a responsible manner.

DPM Lukšić pointed out that the EU and NATO integration are key priorities of the Governments’ foreign policy, reiterating its dedication to fulfilling obligations from Euro-Atlantic agenda in key reform areas and in strengthening public support for the accession process.
