Berlin, Germany (21 February 2013) -- Montenegro is a young, dynamic and ambitious European country that will hopefully one day become a full member state of the Euro-Atlantic community, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said following his meeting with Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Igor Lukšić on Wednesday. Montenegrin soldiers are involved in peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, thus demonstrating their country’s commitment to the promotion of the collective peace and security. Having in mind the population of Montenegro, its contribution to the international community is remarkable, Mr Westerwelle pointed out.

He highlighted that Montenegro has achieved a great progress in EU accession process, adding that Germany is ready to support the implementation of the acquis communautaire by providing the expert assistance in concrete projects. Germany will also continue to advocate the European perspective of the Western Balkans, the German Foreign Minister underlined.

Minister Westerwelle said that Montenegro’s main objective is the implementation of the European standards, in particular in strengthening the rule of law. He added that German companies are willing to invest in Montenegro, but that they seek legal security and transparency.

He concluded by saying that Montenegro needs to cherish good cooperation with its neighbours and to proceed to resolve all open issues.
