Published on: Jun 20, 2022 12:01 PM Author: Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism

At the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference, held in Geneva (Switzerland), from 12 to 17 June 2022, Ministers supported the strengthening of non-discriminatory, open, fair, inclusive, fair and transparent trade based on WTO rules. They stressed the importance of international trade and the World Trade Organization in global economic recovery and poverty alleviation.

Ministers reaffirmed the need for special and differential treatment for developing and least developed countries. As an integral part of the WTO, special and differential treatment in WTO agreements should be precise, effective and operational.

Stressing the need for WTO reform, the ministers pointed to expectations that the full functionality of the dispute settlement mechanism and the functionality of the Appellate Body would be established by the end of 2024.

The Ministerial Conference was an opportunity to discuss other issues relevant to addressing e-commerce, equitable drug distribution, illicit fisheries subsidies, LDC issues, and the impact of climate change on global trade. Montenegro took an active part in the Ministerial Conference.
