UNDP to support Montenegro's reforms in social welfare, health, sustainable development, environmental protection

Podgorica, Montenegro (1 March 2013) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met Thursday with UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative to Montenegro Rastislav Vrbensky to discuss the implementation of the obligations and programs deriving from the country's UN membership.
PM Đukanović highlighted that Montenegro is committed to the cooperation with the UN, adding that programs of the UN agencies correspond with the Montenegrin strategy of internal development and its Euro-Atlantic and foreign policy goals. He pointed out that Montenegro will continue to consolidate its financial sector, restore economic growth and fulfil standards from its integration agenda.
Ambassador Vrbensky said that the UN will provide support to the Montenegrin Government's priorities through the extension of the cooperation in the fields of social welfare, health care, sustainable development and protection of the environment.
The two officials supported the idea of establishing the Centre for Sustainable Development, as well as energy efficiency projects and agreed to foster the activities related to the implementation of the social card and to the completion of the construction of the UN eco-building.
They concluded that the cooperation in the next period will be focused on the EU accession process and the support for Montenegro's negotiation process.
