PM's Đukanović and Fico discuss EU, NATO integration, economic cooperation in Bratislava

Podgorica, Montenegro (18 April 2013) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met yesterday in Bratislava with his Slovakian counterpart Robert Fico for talks on EU and NATO integration, and economic cooperation between the two countries.

He thanked Slovakia’s Government for providing continuous support to Montenegro and for its dedication to the EU enlargement process which is very important for Montenegro’s integration efforts.

Prime Minister Đukanović pointed out the utmost importance of the project titled “National Convention for European integration of Montenegro” which has been carried out in cooperation with the Slovakian partners. The projects aims to gather as many stakeholders as possible and enable exchanging experiences and creating environment for achieving European future of the Montenegrin society, he told the press following his meeting with PM Fico.

Despite the excellent and friendly relations established between the two countries, PM Đukanović continued, there is room for boosting economic ties. Slovakian investors have been showing increasing interest in investing in Montenegro, particularly in the sectors of energy and tourism, as Montenegro’s priority development areas.

Slovakia supports the Western Balkan’s accession process and stands ready to provide all necessary assistance to Montenegro on its European and Euro-Atlantic integration journey, Slovakian Prime Minister Fico noted. Montenegro should become an EU member state as quickly as possible, as the membership brings numerous benefits, such as economic growth and social development, he underlined.
