DPM Lukšić attends meeting of NATO foreign ministers with non-NATO ISAF contributing nations

Brussels, Belgium (24 April 2013) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić took part in the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers with non-NATO ISAF Contributing Nations in Brussels on Tuesday.

In his address, DPM Lukšić referred to Montenegro’s contribution to ISAF Mission, particularly pointing out its commitment to Afghanistan’s lasting and sustainable security and its willingness to, within its available resources, make a concrete contribution to the further strengthening of stability and institution-building in Afghanistan beyond 2014.

During his stay in the NATO headquarters, DPM Lukšić participated in the meeting of foreign ministers of Romania, Turkey, Poland and the countries aspiring for NATO membership – Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Georgia, which underlined the need for boosting cooperation in order to further promote the NATO open door policy.

On the sidelines of the meetings, DPM Lukšić met with foreign ministers of Lithuania, Netherlands and Turkey.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, whose country takes over the EU presidency in July, voiced readiness to continue to support Montenegro’s ambitions in the integration process, especially in the context of the transfer of experience from the process. As to Euro-Atlantic integration, DPM Lukšić and FM Linkevičius focused on building stronger connections within the Adriatic-Baltic-Atlantic Chapter.

At the meeting with DPM Lukšić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Netherlands Frans Timmermans voiced his Government’s full support to Montenegro’s reform process and underlined that all the countries of the region have a clear European perspective.

The meeting with Turkish Head of Diplomacy Ahmet Davutoluom stressed the need for upgrading bilateral collaboration aimed at enhancing Montenegro’s EU and NATO perspective, in which Turkey, as a countries devoted to the Western Balkan, is particularly interested.
