FM Lukšić – EU Commissioner Füle: Montenegro’s institutions dedicated to good and accountable negotiation process

Brussels, Belgium (24 April 2013) – During his visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić met with Štefan Füle, EU’s Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, for talks on Montenegro’s EU integration activities.

Minister Lukšić informed Commissioner Füle of Montenegro’s activity in preparing for the following phases of the negotiation process, and he underlined the importance of comprehensive communication with the EU Commission and expert support for Montenegro’s path towards EU membership. He underlined the full commitment of all institutions to good and accountable participation in the process of accession negotiation, as well as the need to tackle all outstanding challenges with the view to opening the acquis chapters 23 and 24 in the near future.

Commissioner Füle congratulated Montenegro for recently opening and temporarily closing Chapter 26 on education and culture. He stressed the importance of fulfilling the commitments awaiting Montenegro in the future, noting in particular the area of the rule of law.

The two officials agreed that Montenegro should maintain its constructive role in actively advocating regional cooperation.
