Podgorica, Montenegro (29 April 2013) – European Parliament strongly advocates the EU enlargement’s policy and will continue to provide continued support for Montenegro’s EU bid, Eduard Kukan, Head of the European Parliament’ s delegation, which is paying an official visit to Montenegro, said at the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Duško Marković earlier today.

The European parliamentarians pointed out that Montenegro, in addition to the internal reforms it has been implementing, is also accountable for making the enlargement process credible, as it is the only candidate country that is currently negotiating the EU membership within the European community of nations. They also expressed belief that the example of Montenegro will demonstrate the sustainability and continuity of the successful enlargement policy.

They also addressed the recent Montenegro’s presidential elections, noting that the boycott of institutions is not a successful mechanism of political fight. They added that all the outstanding issues should be resolved within Montenegro’s institutions, primarily within the Parliament.

DPM Marković said that after the last stage in which the political will and full commitment to the integration goals have been successfully tested, it is time for Montenegro’s society and institutions to indentify weaknesses and hurdles, and to remove them efficiently, along with constant communication and cooperation with European and international partners.
