Strong commitment to strenghthening political, economic ties between Montengro and Armenia

Armenia, Yerevan (7 May 2013) – During his first official visit to the Republic of Armenia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Lukšić met with senior state officials – Armenian President Serzhzh Sargsyan, RA National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan and Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
The officials underlined strong commitment to strengthening political and economic relations between the two states, adding that the first visit of a Montenegrin official since regaining independence is very important for further bilateral initiatives. The meetings also highlighted that the appointment of non-resident ambassadors will provide more possibilities for the enlargement of contractual basis in several fields of common interest.
The meeting with President Serzhzh Sargsyan discussed current initiatives in economic cooperation, with regards to increasing the volume of trade exchange and to strengthening economic ties through signing memorandum agreements. The two officials stressed that the upcoming business forum of Montenegro and Armenia’s entrepreneurs is an important mechanism for deepening economic collaboration.
RA National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan informed DPM Lukšić about the establishment of a parliamentary group for cooperation between Montenegro and Armenia in order to improve the two states’ parliamentary cooperation.
DPM Lukšić informed the Armenia’s officials about current situation related to Montenegro’s EU and NATO accession process and measures referring to the consolidation of public finances, renewal of economic growth and current regional issues, emphasising the importance of regional dialogue for achieving common strategic foreign policy goals.
