Podgorica, Montenegro (9 May 2013) -- At today’s session, the Government adopted the Strategy for Improving Quality of Life of LGBT Population for the period 2013-2018. The strategy was designed as the Government's systematic answer in combating all kinds of discrimination in Montenegro and it reflects a step forward in implementing EU standards and principles, Jovan Kojičić, Adviser to Prime Minister for Human Rights and Protection from Discrimination, told the press following the Cabinet’s meeting.

The strategy provides for clear guidelines for the fight against discrimination, Mr Kojičić underlined, adding that the key message of this Strategy is that no one in Montenegro should live in fear and be invisible regardless of any personal feature including sexual orientation.

While having drafted the Strategy, the Government used experience of Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada, bearing in mind an important role of the NGOs as well. This process, initiated in November 2011, took place through different stages and within the communication with all relevant social stakeholders, including international experts and partners, the Prime Minister’s Adviser concluded.
