Podgorica, Montenegro (15 May 2013) – Montenegro and Italy have built solid partnerships in all areas, and nowadays Italy is one of Montenegro's most important partners on its European and Euro-Atlantic path, Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Duško Marković said at the meeting with newly appointed Italian Ambassador in Podgorica Vincenzo Del Monaco.

Considering the achievements made in implementing bilateral treaties on the extradition of criminals in severe crimes that have been signed with the countries of the region, the two officials agreed that strong judicial, police and prosecutorial cooperation and consistent enforcement of bilateral and international judiciary agreements are the best responses to numerous challenges in combating corruption and organised crime.

Italian experience and support is priceless for Montenegro’s progress and the future cooperation will be strengthened through the signing of the Additional Bilateral Agreement with the European Convention on Extradition and the Additional Bilateral Agreement with the European Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, which will be the first agreements of this kind that Montenegro signs with a EU member states.
