PM Đukanović pays official visit to Brussels
Podgorica, Montenegro (20 June 2013) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met in Brussels with European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle for talks on the progress made by Montenegro over the last few months and the priorities for the coming period.
“I took the opportunity to inform Commissioner Füle about the efforts made by the Montenegrin Government’s in the first 6 months of 2013, which were concentrated primarily on the issue of financial consolidation and creation of preconditions for the activation of development projects on one hand, and on strengthening the rule of law, on the other hand,” PM Đukanović told the press.
PM Đukanović expects the actions plans for the negotiation chapters 23 and 24 to be adopted at the Cabinet session on 27 June and then submitted to the European Commission for futher proceedings. Therefore, he expressed belief that Montenegro could open accession talks in these areas within the planned timeframe.
The two officials also emphasised the importance of adopting the constitutional amendments.
“I expect that we could create conditions for ensuring a two-thirds majority in the Parliament by the end of July and adopt those amendments. It is important as it creates conditions for amending a set of laws aimed at strengthening the rule of law, especially the efficiency of the judiciary,” the Prime Minister underlined in Brussels.
