Podgorica, Montenegro (24 July 2013) -- Prime Minister Milo ĐukanoviĆ met with Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexey Meshkov in Podgorica earlier today.

Relations between Montenegro and Russia are friendly and are characterised by intense interstate cooperation in all fields. Montenegro, as a country that takes care of its identity, is very proud of its long tradition of relations with Russia and is genuinely interested in their preservation and further development, particularly in the fields of economy and culture, PM Đukanović underlined.

He informed the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister about the priorities and activities of his Government, referring to the successful consolidation of public finances and the initiation of large-scale infrastructural development projects in the areas of energy, tourism and agriculture, whose implementation requires cooperation with foreign investors. Current and next year will be years of economic growth in Montenegro, Prime Minister Đukanović emphasised.

Russian investors are interested in investing in Montenegro and the region, especially in the energy sector, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Meshkov said. In that regard, he pointed out that Russia, when it comes to the situation in the Aluminium Plant Podgorica (KAP), highly appreciates a recent Prime Minister’s approach, expecting that the issue will be resolved in a manner satisfactory to both sides.
