Montenegro’s first ever gay parade takes place in seaside resort of Budva
Podgorica, Montenegro (25 July 2013) -- Montenegro’s first ever gay parade, organised by the LGBT Forum Progress, took place yesterday in Montenegro’s seaside resort of Budva.
Security situation before, during and after the event, taking into account minor incidents, was satisfactory, thanks to timely action of police officers, the Police Authority’s press release announced on Wednesday.
During the gay parade, police officers with constantly protecting the participants from about 500 aggressive opponents who were shouting insults, throwing various objects (bottles, chairs, rocks, smoke bombs, etc.) and attempting to achieve physical contact with participants of the parade, the press release reads.
Twenty-two people were taken into custody in order to determine the existence of reasonable suspicion of having committed offenses - crimes or misdemeanors.
During the public meetings, two persons received minor injuries from objects thrown from the crowd and were provided with medical assistance.
Police officers of the Security Center of Budva are undertaking measures in order to identify the people who evoked incidents for their prosecution to the competent authority.After the end of the event, police officers enabled the gay parade participants to leave the venue in a safe manner by organising their transport to another place by sea, the Montenegrin Police Authority’s press prelease concluded.
