Podgorica, Montenegro (3 September 2013) – Montenegro has made the most notable progress in the European integration process and it is to be expected for it to become the next member-state of the Union, said France’s Minister for European Affairs Thierry Repentin at his meeting today with Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović.
The visit by France’s European Affairs minister is an important boost for further EU integration efforts and the overall development of the region, Prime Minister Đukanović noted adding that EU membership is a strategic goal to which the Government is fully committed.
Underlining that the European agenda benchmarks represent the requirements of internal economic and democratic development, the Prime Minister noted that Montenegro, by achieving good results, has a positive role to play in the European future of the Balkans.
Welcoming the quality and extent of Montenegro-France relations, minister Repentin stressed that France greatly values Montenegro’s international activity. He added that his country will continue fully supporting Montenegro, whom it recognises as France’s important international partner.
The two officials concurred that the bilateral relations are very good and that they guarantee further development of economic and cultural cooperation.
