Podgorica, Montenegro (17 September 2013) -- Montenegro welcomes the framework agreement reached between the United States and Russia on the destruction of the Syrian chemical weapons, under the Chemical Weapons Convention, in cooperation with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

As a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Montenegro remains committed to universal values that we share with our international partners in the EU and NATO concerning common foreign and security policy in relation to global threats, such as, among others, the use of chemical weapons.

In that regard, we remain dedicated to efforts being exerted towards a political solution to the Syrian conflict in order to stabilise the situation and meet obligations under the Geneva Protocol.

By supporting the joint statement, along with numerous countries, Montenegro supports international efforts in finding a political solution to the use of chemical weapons in Syria, in order to fully implement the ban on chemical weapons use.
