UN General Assembly's President: Montenegro makes impressive progress

New York, the United States (24 September 2013) – On the sidelines of the 68th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met with newly appointed President of the General Assembly John W. Ashe.

PM Đukanović congratulated Mr Ashe upon his new appointment and expressed belief that close cooperation between Montenegro and the United Nations will be continued during his term of office. He reiterated the Government of Montenegro’s commitment to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals on an equal basis with other UN member states.

The UN General Assembly’s President emphasised Montenegro’s positive role in the international arena and its continuous contribution to the UN peacekeeping missions, but also in the field of sustainable development. He also said he is impressed with the results Montenegro’s Government achieves.

Both sides agreed that Montenegro has made notable progress when it comes to the promotion of human rights and reiterated their commitment to make joint efforts in the coming period aimed at achieving major UN goals.
