Hungary backs Montenegro's EU and NATO ambitions, pledges to continue investing
Podgorica, Montenegro (4 October 2013) – Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Igor Lukšić hosted Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi in Podgorica earlier today.
DPM Lukšić thanked Foreign Minister Martonyi for Hungary's strong support for Montenegro’s EU and NATO aspirations, as well as for its willingness to provide assistance to Montenegro’s negotiation process particularly referring to the chapters 11, 12 and 13, but also to transfer know-how and experience as far as the negotiating chapters 23 and 24 are concerned.
Emphasising significance of economic cooperation, DPM Lukšić commended the efforts the joint economic commission made towards intensifying cooperation in numerous fields, having in mind positive experience that the Hungarian companies such as Magyar Telekom, OTP bank and Hunguest hotels have had in Montenegro.
Continuation of the EU and NATO enlargement process is a cornerstone of the Hungarian foreign policy, Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi underlined. It is crucial, in his words, for the region that Montenegro becomes an EU and NATO member state, which requires firm determination of the country and transparency in work.
FM Martonyi also pledged support for deepening economic cooperation between the two countries.
“Hungary is, if I am not mistaken, among five largest foreign investors in this country and we would like to continue our presence in Montenegro also in the field of infrastructure projects”, the head of Hungarian diplomacy concluded.
