Podgorica, Montenegro (23 October 2013) -- Prime Minister Milo Đukanovic met Tuesday with Director-General for Enlargement Christian Danielsson.
He informed Mr Danielsson about the Montenegrin Government’s efforts made towards achieving financial consolidation and intensification of economic growth. Economic growth and development are closely linked with the strengthening of the rule of law, therefore, the Prime Minister underlined, the Government is committed to pursuing structural reforms in all fields in order to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Montenegro.
"We want to have European quality of life here in Montenegro, so we are looking for quality over speed in the negotiations with the EU," Prime Minister Milo Đukanović said, adding that it is realistic to expect the negotiations, among others, for chapters 23 and 24, to start by the end of 2013.
Director General for Enlargement Christian Danijelson congratulated the Montenegrin Government on the progress and achievements of the current accession process with the EU, which is reflected in the latest Progress Report. He said that, after taking the office of the director-general for enlargement, he paid his first visit to Montenegro, as it is a leader in the integration process and an example for other countries in the region.
Mr Danielsson welcomed the Government’s approach to finding a lasting solution to the situation in the aluminium industry, and the overall commitment to the reform process and to meeting the criteria for the EU membership.
Both sides agreed that the future of the entire region lies in the EU, as a kind of guarantor of stability, democratic development and prosperity
