Economy Ministry: Future of KAP workers depends on trade union ageement
With a view to resolving the issue of redundancy in the Aluminum Plant Podgorica (KAP), the Government of Montenegro undertook the following:
• proposed amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance for KAP employees;
• provided EUR 2,2 million for benefits;
• commitment to providing social programmes for employees of KAP who became supernumerary due to bankruptcy, which was confirmed to the workers and their representatives on several occasions.
The Government expects the KAP’s bankruptcy administration to submit a list of redundancy based on which the total amount of funds for this purpose will be defined. In addition, the modality based on which it will be done is already known, which is also known to workers and their representatives. However, in which way the workers who have lost their jobs, as well as those eligible to retirement, will be taken care of depends on the agreement within the KAP’s trade union.
Blockade of the company challenges its future operations and the preservation of jobs of those who are not entitled to pension and whose livelihood depends on the company's future. In this regard, we appeal to workers to enable smooth operations of the Aluminium Plant and the survival of the production in the company, thus preserving the existing jobs.
