Podgorica, Montenegro (7 November 2013) – Montenegro’s Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Branimir Gvozdenović attended the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, where he was encouraged by the plans travel agencies and tour operators have for Montenegro in the coming period.

According to Minister Gvozdenović, Montenegro’s tourism recorded significant growth in 2013, which makes Montenegro one of the world’s fastest- growing travel destinations and that trend is to be continued.

“It resulted from the quality that both southern and northern parts of Montenegro have to offer, which was recongised by tourists from around the world”, Minister Gvozdenović said.

Montenegro is currently negotiating with airlines with a view to making Montenegro easily accessible for tourists, Minister Gvozdenović pointed out. He noted that Montenegro Airlines announced the introduction of a regular flight from Podgorica to London twice a week in 2014. The Ministry’s representatives, he added, are also negotiating with the companies such as Wizz Air, Jet2 2, easyJet and RyanAir.

“We expect the negotiations to yield results in 2014 or 2015, thus creating conditions for tourism industry to grow, and to extend the duration of the tourist seasons”, the Tourism Minister pointed out.

He added that the Ministry is dealing intensely with the education of the domestic work force in order to increase their engagement in the sector of tourism.

Increasing hotel capacities is also a very significant issue on the Government’s agenda, he stated. In that regard, he mentioned solutions envisaged by the new Law on Spatial Planning and Construction.

“As you know, Montenegro has also moved up significantly in the Doing Business 2014 ranking list, which further encourages investors to enter the area with serious future prospects”, Minister Gvozdenović underlined.
