Historic day for Montenegro’s health-care: First organ recovery performed

Podgorica, Montenegro (9 December 2013) –Montenegro’s health-care system reached a milestone late yesterday – first ever organ recovery was performed from a registered donor.

As Health Ministry stated, owing to the humanism of a Montenegrin family, a surgery was performed at Montenegro Clinical Centre in Podgorica, which involved the removal of the heart, liver, and kidneys from a deceased person who during their life signed a donor card.

This is the first procedure of its kind in Montenegro and it will save several lives in Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia. Montenegro introduced donor cards in 2012.
