PM Đukanović, Serbian government officials, pledge commitment to reaffirming traditionally close relations

Podgorica, Montenegro (10 December 2013) -- During his official visit to Serbia, Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović met earlier today in Belgrade with Serbian Prime Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić and Aleksandar Vučić, as well as with Speaker of the National Assembly Nebojsa Stefanović.

Prime Minister Đukanović thanked his hosts for the invitation to visit Serbia, describing it as a confirmation that relations between the two states are on the right track.

"We are highly committed to reaffirming traditionally close relations based on friendship, understanding and common interests," PM Đukanović underlined at a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dačić. He added that Montenegro and Serbia, as two friendly countries, "are now connected by common interests and goals such as the EU membership."

The two prime ministers signed the Agreement between Montenegro and Serbia on cooperation in the field of European integration. Montenegro’s Prime Minister reiterated that "there is almost no area in which cooperation has not been not already established." In future, special emphasis will be given to cooperation in the fields of economy, energy and infrastructure, particularly referring to the highway construction and reconstruction of the Bar-Belgrade and the Belgrade- Budapest railways, he stressed.

The meeting between Prime Minister Đukanović and Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić concentrated on cooperation in strengthening the rule of law, exchanging information and boosting cooperation between the two police and judicial systems. The two officials voiced willingness to cooperate in order to achieve the common goals.

 

 

Following the meetings with the Serbian Government' officials, Prime Minister Đukanović paid homage to assassinated Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić by laying wreath at his memorial plaque in front of the Serbian Government.
