Montenegro Government's officials strongly condemn bomber attack on daily "Vijesti"
Podgorica, Montenegro (30 December 2013) – Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Duško Marković strongly condemned the attack on the editorial office of Montenegro’s independent daily “Vijesti, when an explosive device was detonated under the window of the editor-in-chief in Podgorica on Thursday night.
The incident, in the Deputy Prime Minister’s words, is “a serious attack primarily on life, property, human rights and freedom of speech, but, above all, the attack on the state and its institutions’ continued efforts to guarantee freedom, security, protection of life and every other good of all citizens.”
He underlined that all attacks on the media and police, including the recent attack on chief of the municipality of Bar's police, require a most urgent response of the competent authorities.
“The state will not allow any of its citizens to feel unsafe. We will make every effort to win the battle against crime in general, hand in hand with our partners - institutions of the system, non-governmental organisations, academic community, religious communities, our international partners and every Montenegrin citizen, ” the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice noted in his address to the Montenegrin citizens.
Prime Ministers Milo Đukanović and Minister of the Interior Raško Konjević also condemned the incident, describing it as an attack on the country, and voicing belief the police will track down the perpetrators and stop the undetected attacks on the daily Vijesti.
