Montenegro gains observer status to Organisation of American States (OAS)

Podgorica, Montenegro (4 February 2014) – Montenegro gained observer status to the Organisation of American States (OAS) at the meeting of the OAS Permanent Council, which was held in the seat of the organisation in Washington on 31 January 2014.

The OAS is the world’s oldest regional organisation, founded in 1889 in order to promote solidarity, strengthen cooperation, defence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member states.

By obtaining the observer status, Montenegro will intensify cooperation with the countries of the two American continents, thus confirming its commitment to the fundamental values of the civilisation, such as democracy, security, human rights and freedoms.
