PM Đukanović, Bulgarian President Plevneliev: Montenegro's integration is in EU and NATO's best interest

Podgorica, Montenegro (25 February 2014) -- Intense and successful political dialogue characterises the overall relations between Montenegro and Bulgaria, which serves as a good basis for cooperation in various fields, the meeting between Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev concluded in Podgorica earlier today.

PM Đukanović informed President Plevneliev about Montenegro’s reform processes and presented the dynamics of its EU and NATO accession processes. In that regard, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of Euro-Atlantic integration for the security and prosperity of Montenegro and South East Europe.

President Plevneliev welcomed Montenegro’s progress towards the NATO and EU accession, pledging Bulgaria’s full support in that regard, as Montenegro and the Western Balkans’ integration is significant not only to Bulgaria, but also to the EU and NATO. He also emphasised importance of the region’s integration process for the overall prosperity.

Both sides agreed on the need to further improve economic and investment cooperation between the two countries. The two officials also commended cooperation in the areas of security and home affairs, and initiated intensification of cooperation in the fields of justice and culture.
