Podgorica, Montenegro (5 March 2014) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić met earlier today with Ukraine’s Ambassador Oksana Sljusarenko, with whom he discussed the current situation on Ukraine. Ms Sljusarenko informed Mr Lukšić about the most recent development regarding the crisis in the country.
Voicing concern over the impact of the crisis on the regional stability and economic recovery, Minister Lukšić reiterated the Government of Montenegro position and support for the Council of the European Union conclusions on Ukraine issued on 3 March 2014. He noted that the solution to the crisis must be based solely on the constructive domestic dialogue and the principles of international law, adding that the use of military force cannot be the way towards solving the problem.
In that regard, he underlined the importance of the withdrawal of Russian armed forces to the military bases and of opening a dialogue of all parties concerned, with adequate support by the international community.
The two officials also exchanged opinions about other topics and bilateral relations
