Podgorica, Montenegro (10 March 2014) -- Montenegro’s Government is actively promoting the principles of the UN Charter and is committed to fulfilling all international obligations in line with the projected Millennium Development Goals, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović noted at the meeting with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson in Podgorica earlier today.
“Montenegro is strongly committed to multilateralism, cooperation with the UN and respect for the organisation’s fundamental values. The opening of the first UN eco-friendly building in Podgorica confirms the quality of the cooperation, which is also a notable contribution to promoting sustainable development and creating preconditions for full implementation of the "Delivering as One" concept , Prime Minister Đukanovic pointed out.
He stressed that Montenegro, by taking part in the work of the UN Human Rights Council, makes a contribution to the preservation and protection of human rights globally.
"In that context, Montenegro conducts consistent policy at both national and regional levels, at the same time respecting and promoting human rights and protection of vulnerable groups," PM Đukanović underlined. Montenegro is a stable country, dedicated to the realisation of a long-term concept of democratic and economic development, and to establishing and maintaining stability and prosperity of the entire region in line with its European and Euro-Atlantic priorities.
Montenegro is a reliable and powerful partner of the United Nations, and it has every reason to be proud of its current achievements, progress and development, the UN Deputy Secretary-General Eliasson emphasised. He thanked Prime Minister Đukanović for his support for the construction of the UN eco building, which, in his words, symbolises high quality and a wide range of cooperation with the UN, as well as Montenegro’s commitment to the organisations’ principles.
Conveying the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's greetings and support for Prime Minister Đukanović, Mr Eliasson said the United Nations will make every effort, through strengthening its partnership with Montenegro, to contribute to the achievement of its national key priorities.
