German Agency for International Cooperation to continue supporting Montenegro in fields of state aid, financial management

Podgorica, Montenegro (14 March 2014) – Minister of Finance Radoje Žugić met yesterday with Regional Director of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) Brigitte Heuel-Rolf for talks on cooperation between the Montenegrin Finance Ministry and Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.

The meeting addressed current collaboration between these two ministries with an emphasis on the support Germany provided to Montenegro in terms of creating a legislative framework and its harmonisation with the EU standards, as well as strengthening capacities dealing with state aid area.

The Regional Director of GIZ underlined that through implementation of joint projects Montenegro has significantly improved its legislative framework related to the state aid and human resources in that field.

German Ministry for Cooperation and Development is willing to support Montenegro in this field, particularly having in mind that this is one of the most important areas in the EU accession process, GIZ Regional Director stressed. Financial management will also be supported through the provision of expert assistance to the Directorate for financing and contracting of the EU assistance funds, she added.

Minister Žugić thanked the GIZ representatives for their partnership and expressed belief that bilateral cooperation with Germany will be intensified through enhancing cooperation in the economic area.
