The report on the implementation of the IV Annual National Programme within the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) was discussed at today’s session of the NATO Membership Council, chaired by Prime Minister Milo Đukanović. The Council concluded that the commitments Montenegro has undertaken in implementing the IV ANP are being successfully met, noting that some activities were completed well in advance of the set deadlines. The Council also noted that future efforts need to be enhanced in order to maintain the positive trend in meeting the NATO membership requirements.
The Council underlined that the hitherto activities in establishing a public dialogue on Montenegro’s NATO membership have been successful, and that the public awareness of the importance of this strategic goal has increased. The Council discussed the future communication activities, which will be further developed and extended to all society’s stakeholders with the view to raising the awareness among citizens even more as regards this important foreign policy priority of Montenegro.
The report on the implementation of the IV ANP sums up the overview of activities implemented in the seven priority areas (political matters, rule of law, parliamentary reform, security matters, military and defence matters, and economic and legal matters). The report will be adopted at the forthcoming Cabinet meeting.
The Membership Action Plan (MAP) is a NATO programme of advice, assistance and practical support tailored to the individual needs of countries wishing to join the Alliance.
Countries participating in the MAP submit individual annual national programmes on their preparations for possible future membership. These cover political, economic, defence, resource, security and legal aspects.
