Podgorica, Montenegro (1 March 2014) – Within the project “Citizen Involvement in Fight against Grey Economy” in which citizens report illegal economic practices, the inspection authorities have issued fines worth over EUR 270 000.
Based on the Governments’ decision, one half of each fine issued following a citizen report will be invested in socially beneficial projects for which citizens were able to vote from 1 February until 31 March.
Out the total number of votes (397), the project “Purchase of gastroenterology and colonoscopy equipment for the Child Care Institute of the Montenegrin Clinical Centre” has won the majority of votes (156), followed by the project of Reconstruction and redesign of day-care centres for children and youth with disabilities in the municipalities of Cetinje, Nikšić, and Plav. According to the rules of this campaign, the implementation of the two projects requires EUR 50 000 each.
Ministry of Finance will provide adequate budgetary resources and, in cooperation with the Child Care Institute and daily centres in Nikšić, Cetinje and Plav, will sign agreements aimed at specifying deadlines for the procurement of equipment and start of works.
The campaign “Be responsible. It’s up to you. Grey economy 0%” has united state institutions, social stakeholders and citizens in fighting against grey economy in an open partnership for dealing with this important social issue. One of the best indicators for this campaigns’ progress is the fact that over only three months the Android and I-phone application for this project was downloaded by over 1,800 citizens.
If the positive trend of the citizens’ involvement in this campaign continues, the funds for the implementation of the third project “Landscaping of the Ćemovsko Polje Park”, initiated by the NGOs Green Home and Ozon, will be provided as well. The project is worth EUR 50.000 and EUR 35.000 has been collected to date, the Finance Ministry concludes.
The campaign “Be responsible. It’s up to you. Grey economy 0%” is part of the which is being implemented by the Government of Montenegro, Faculty of Electrical Engineering Podgorica, and UNDP Montenegro.
