Vilnius, Lithuania (3 April 2014) – NATO open-door policy enjoys full support at this moment, as do Montenegro’s efforts to join the Alliance, especially since the country is currently in the lead in this process, concluded the “NATO’s Open Door: Ten years after the ‘big bang’” conference, held today in Lithuania’s capital city of Vilnius.

At the conference, Montenegro’s National Coordinator for NATO Nebojša Kaluđerović presented Montenegro’s achievements and noted Montenegro hopes the Alliance would recognise in the right way the efforts and commitment made by Montenegro.

Foreign and defence ministers of the countries of the Baltic Charter and the US-Adriatic Charter and NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow attended the conference, whose main conclusion was that the open-door policy has proved itself very useful in strengthening security in Europe. It was also underlined that all aspiring states enjoy full support and encouragement in their integration efforts and the conference highlighted the importance of sharing regional experience.
