The Stakeholder Meeting for the Development of the National Action Program for land protection in Montenegro was held on 2 April 2014

On Wednesday, 2 April 2014 in Hotel Aurel in Podgorica the wide Stakeholder Meeting was held starting at 9.30h. The Meeting was attended by representatives from both public and private sector.

The meeting was opened by Ms. Ivana Vojinovic, the General Director for Environment and Climate Change in the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, stating that this project is of great importance to the country, as this issue has not been very frequently addressed among other environmental issues.

Mr. Pier Carlo Sandei from UNEP Office in Vienna has also addressed the participants mentioning that this project should gather and comprehensively cover all projects regarding the land degradation.

The work agenda started with presentation of Ms. Sonja Malicevic from the Forestry and Environmental Action – fea, briefly explaining the work methodology and agenda.

Mr. Ranko Kankaras on behalf of the expert team presented the work that has been done so far, as well as the outline of the First NAP Draft emphasizing the need of involvement of major stakeholders in the process of preparation of NAP.

The land degradation in Montenegro, main factors contributing to land degradation and the most relevant industries in the country were introduced by Mr. Budimir Fustic, expert on NAP development in Montenegro. 

NAP expert, Mr. Mirko Knezevic, has presented the necessary indicators that need to be developed and the necessity of new raw data that needs to be collected for the purpose of identifying of the country-relevant indicators according to the UNCCD requirements.

The Meeting ws closed by Mr. Sandei who has invited all the participants to provide their comments and suggestions on the NAP in the next period of time.
