Podgorica, Montenegro (7 April 2014) – Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration representatives met earlier today with an European Commission’s expert mission on fundamental rights to discuss Montenegro’s progress in this area.

MFAEI presented the measures from the action plan for EU acquis Chapter 23, which covers this area, and they noted a set of laws aimed at better protection of fundamental rights, such as the Anti-Discrimination Law, the Law on Social and Child Protection, the draft law on the ombudsman, etc. They also noted the Social and Child Protection Strategy, the action plan for involvement of persons with disabilities, with an emphasis on state institutions, as well as many efforts in improving the administrative capacity through a number of trainings.

EU experts from Germany and Denmark are in an official visit to Montenegro on 7-11 April and they plan to hold 44 meetings with 22 institutions with the view to analysing progress and discussing further challenges in EU integration. The information they intend to gather will help compile the European Commission’s Progress Report, published each October.
