Montenegro’s Ministry of Interior and OSCE to enhance cooperation
Podgorica, Montenegro (8 April 2014) – Minister of the Interior Raško Konjević met earlier today with Head of the OSCE Mission to Montenegro Janina Hrebickova for talks on projects related to strengthening mutual cooperation.
Ambassador Hrebickova underlined that the OSCE, in cooperation with Montenegro’s Ministry of the Interior and the UNDP, is willing to work on small arms reduction project, but that it must include all relevant stakeholders. Minister Konjević acknowledged the importance of this project with an emphasis on the activities to be implemented after the adoption of the new Law on Weapons.
The meeting also discussed the strengthening of communication between law enforcement authorities, media and public in order to inform the public promptly and accurately about all activities launched by the state authorities.
The two officials agreed that Department for Internal Control within the national police authority is extremely important and that there is room for further improvement of its activities. In that regard, Mr Konjević emphasised that the implementation of measures defined by the action plan for chapter 24 is already in progress.
With regard to the police reform process, the OSCE will support further projects related to establishing intelligence-led policing, the meeting concluded.
