DPM Lukšić attends Atlantic Council of Canada, meets with representatives of Montenegrin Diaspora

PR BureauToronto, Canada (09 April 2014) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić paid his first bilateral visit to Canada, where he delivered a speech at the Atlantic Council of Canada and met with representatives of the Montenegrin Diaspora.

During his speech, DPM Lukšić addressed the history of Montenegro as an independent state, particularly its priorities and progress made towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He informed the members of the Atlantic Council about reforms undertaken within the key areas of NATO integration and noted Montenegro’s expectation to join the Alliance.

In the year marking the anniversary of NATO enlargement and other significant European anniversaries, DPM Lukšić highlighted the meaning of this particular moment for completing the process of creating a free and united Europe and the role of Montenegro and the Western Balkans in the Euro-Atlantic integration process.

The meeting with representatives of Montenegrin Diaspora discussed the promotion and strengthening of communication and cooperation between Montenegrin immigrants and their home country, in accordance with the Government of Montenegro priorities. Due to the Diaspora’s notable contribution to Montenegro, different modalities of further cooperation should be strengthened throughout the implementation of strategic documents of the Government of Montenegro, the meeting underlined.

On the sidelines of this bilateral visit, DPM Lukšić also met with Canadian investor Peter Munk for talks on the implementation of Porto Montenegro’s current and future projects.
