Security and Defence Committee held its 21st Session

During today’s session, Security and Defence Committee held a control hearing of Supreme Attorney General, Minister of Interiors and Director of the National Security Agency regarding frequent attacks against journalists.
Upon discussion, the following conclusions were unanimously adopted:
1. The Committee states that the competent state authorities in the specific cases (the cases of journalist Nikcevic and the attack against daily newspaper ‘Vijesti’of 26th December 2013) have intensified activities resulting in uncovering the crimes, identification of perpetrators, masterminds, and their prosecution.
2. The Committee indicates a necessity of continuation of full cooperation among competent state authorities aimed at ensuring the highest level of efficiency, identification and prosecution of perpetrators and masterminds of criminal acts of assault against journalists and their property.
3. The Committee states that, in a certain number of cases, the work of Intelligence and Police Services on uncovering and prosecuting perpetrators and masterminds of the crimes is still ongoing, whereas the activities on their prosecution have been undertaken in cooperation with the relevant state prosecutor’s office.
4. Recognizing a significance of the above mentioned issue and negative effects of attacks against media on democratic development of Montenegro, the Committee states a necessity of ensuring a full professional safety to employees within the public media and their property by the relevant state authorities in accordance with their competences regulated by the Law.
5. The Committee insists on continuation of measures and activities of state authorities on clearing up the murder of Dusko Jovanovic, with a special focus on the undertaken activities that is to be a subject of the Committee’s special session.
6. The Committee confirms its full readiness to continue monitoring the efficiency and legality of the work of the competent state authorities in order to clear up, prosecute perpetrators and masterminds of all attacks against journalists and their property.
