Podgorica, Montenegro (25 April 2014) – Questions to the Prime Minister session was held earlier today at the Parliament of Montenegro, where MPs asked Prime Minister Milo Đukanović about the Government's activities and policies.

PM Đukanović received a question on foreign policy activities, particularly aimed at Montenegro’s progress towards European and Euro-Atlantic accession, and relations with Russia considering the Prime Minister’s statements delivered during his official visit to Washington.

Prime Minister Đukanović underlined that all of his statements issued during his visit to Washington are in accordance with the Montenegrin national interests and its foreign policy orientation. The EU and NATO integration processes are key foreign policy goals, not only for Montenegro, but for the entire region of the Western Balkans as well, PM Đukanović pointed out.

EU and NATO integration are synonym for peace, stability, the rule of law, economic and overall development based on common European values, PM Đukanović underlined, adding that this process cannot be aimed at violating interests of any country, particularly Russian.

Along with its European and NATO accession processes, Montenegro cherishes good and friendly relations with other European and non-European countries. In that regard, PM Đukanović dismissed all allegations, no matter where they come from, that Montenegro is conducting anti – Russian policy.
“These attempts are not based on facts and they are politically motivated”, PM Đukanović pointed out.

Montenegro has made great progress towards NATO accession, which is not the result of new and unexpected sympathy of international community, but of huge efforts and commitments made at the national level, PM ĐUkanović stressed.

The official visit to Washington has strengthened long-time partnership between Montenegro and the USA, PM Đukanović stressed, adding that the US officials recognise Montenegro as the Western Balkans' leader in Euro-Atlantic integration process.

Open-door policy is extremely important for Euro-Atlantic perspective of the Western Balkans based on individual progress of each country, PM Đukanović highlighted.
“I expect the enlargement issue to be an item on the coming NATO Summit agenda”, PM Đukanović concluded.
