Montenegro and Israel set to intensify cooperation in agriculture

On the first day of his official visit to Israel, Montenegro's Agriculture Minister Petar Ivanović met with heads of institutes and organisations dealing with the development of new technologies in the fields of food production, research, equipment and irrigation systems of the latest generation, wastewater treatment, as well as the institutions dealing with protection from forest diseases and preventing fires from spreading.

Minister Ivanović also visited the Volcani Institute working under the Ministry of Agriculture, where he met with in institute's Director of Research in Agriculture and agreed on cooperation in the field of training of young researchers from Montenegro and implementing joint projects which would affect the productivity growth of the Montenegrin farmers and application of technological innovation.

Montenegro's Agriculture Minister and Hagay Sanir, Director of Forestry Sector in the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development discussed the continuation of cooperation with the KKL (Keren Kayemet Leisrael). The KKL has recently opened its representative office for the Balkans in Podgorica. Mr Sanir presented the results Isael has made ​​in the forestry sector over the last decade, emphasising the protection from fires, forest diseases and establishment a more efficient system of reforestation.

Minister Ivanović also met with a number of companies that have expressed interest to invest in the Montenegrin agriculture. 

Meeting between Agriculture Minister Ivanović and his Isaeli counterpart Yair Shamir agreed to boost cooperation between the two countries in the field of scientific cooperation, especially in the field of joint research projects, and to continue cooperation in the field of forests protection through the KKL's established office in Podgorica.
