Minister Konjević: Ministry of the Interior and Police Authority credible and dedicated partner of INTERPOL

Lyon, France (7 May 2014) – Minister of the Interior Raško Konjević paid his first official visit to INTERPOL, where he met with Secretary General Ronald K. Noble to discuss cooperation between his Ministry and the world's largest international police organisation, as well as other transnational security matters.

The meeting underlined a high level of mutual understanding, support and cooperation which indicate that Montenegrin Ministry of the Interior and Police Authority are credible and efficient partner in implementation of key objectives of INTERPOL, the Ministry has noted. 

The two officials discussed current global challenges, with particular emphasis on the fight against transnational threats and organised crime. They also discussed possibilities for strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and INTERPOL within the proactive role of NCB INTERPOL in Podgorica.
 
Secretary General Noble commended the overall progress that Montenegro has achieved in the fight against corruption and organised crime, adding that Montenegro is one of the top users of INTERPOL data bases. INTERPOL will continue to support programmes aimed at strengthening capacities of Police Authority of Montenegro, he stressed.

Minister Konjević thanked Mr Noble for INTERPOL’s support and trust, adding that Montenegro can efficiently contribute to the implementation of key objectives and mission of this organisation. Cooperation with the world's largest international police organisation remains one of the top priorities of Montenegrin security services, Minister Konjević pointed out.

According to the recommendations of INTERPOL’s experts, Montenegro is committed to providing the best conditions for implementation of tasks and activities arising from daily communication with INTERPOL. In that regard, Minister Konjević voiced interest in new joint projects aimed at creating a safer environment and strengthening public trust, not only at the national level, but also in the region.
Minister Konjević signed the agreement recognising the INTERPOL Travel Document, which enables INTERPOL to provide faster support to countries requesting assistance.
