National Coordinator for NATO and Prime Minister’s foreign policy advisor Nebojša Kaluđerović paid an official visit to the Nikšić municipality earlier today, which was part of a series of open public dialogue events with all social stakeholders about the benefits of NATO integration for Montenegro and the region. The event was organised by NATO Membership Council’s Communication Team. Mr Kaluđerović met with municipality representatives and employees, members of political parties, representatives of public companies, final year high-school students, and NGO representatives.

The meeting discussed various aspects of NATO integration, with a special focus on the importance of membership for security, investment opportunities, and equality in decision making. Other topics were related to the way membership decision should be reached, Montenegro’s future commitments as NATO member, and current international developments.

National coordinator Kaluđerović presented the progress Montenegro has made since restoring independence with a special emphasis on the progress in key reform areas: rule of law, public support, and reform of intelligence and security sectors.

Mr Kaluđerović answered the audience’s questions and noted that youth needs to promote dialogue so they could obtain as many arguments as possible and create their own educated and informed opinions about the future.

During his visit to Nikšić, Mr Kaluđerović met with representatives of NGO ALFA Centre, which has been informing the public about NATO integration since 2006. They discussed future activities and closer cooperation in promoting the public dialogue about Montenegro’s NATO membership.
