Podgorica, Montenegro (19 May 2014) -- Government of Montenegro discussed earlier today the information regarding the assistance provided by the Montenegrin authorities in dealing with the consequences of the worst floods that hit the Balkans in over a century and expressed Montenegro’s solidarity with the neighbouring flood-hit countries of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia.

The Government will continuously monitor the situation in the region affected by the floods and will, as always, in close cooperation and direct communication with the authorities of these countries, react and continue providing support in order to reduce the consequences of the catastrophic flooding.

The Government also reached a decision that humanitarian aid the companies from Montenegro have sent to the flooded areas is to be treated as business expenses which will reduce the threshold for paying income tax. The Cabinet also decided that SMS messages by which the Montenegrin citizens send aid to flood-hit areas in the neighbourhood will be exempt from VAT.
